FEB 18, 2003 VANCOUVER SUN PAGE: D2 Chess game to run on cellphones Vancouver Sun BURNABY -- Two B.C. Institute of Technology students, paired with students from Korea, are working on a chess game to run on cellphones. Abbotsford resident Kerry Friesen, 28, and his partner in the industry work project at BCIT, Gord White, 45, of Burnaby, have been mentoring and working with Kyong Roh Lee, 23, and Hee Kyoung Park, 22. Lee, a computer science major, and Park, an electrical engineering major, are among a group of 30 visiting students from South Korea's Chonbuk National University. It's estimated that the world market for mobile gaming will be approximately $17.5 billion by 2006. The project involves a number of participants from education and industry, including Telus Mobility, Magnetar Games, Proface INDE, Alctel, and Holley Communications.
