CPU
$488 Xeon 2.8Ghz
$282 AMD MP 2600+

Motherboard
Dual XEON up to 2.8+ $302
Dual AMD MP $164

Intel Total $1278
AMD Total $728

These are just a few of the benchtests available, there are many others.
At the GamePC site, under Sandra CPU benchtest, the 2 x 2800mhz Xeon (14646) is
equal to the 2 x 2000mhz AMD MP (14618). This is w/o Hyperthreading. With HT
enabled it junps to 16574. I will have to see how this HT works with the SMP
chess programs to know increase in kns.

Some things I know for myself:
1. for sometime now, there has been a big difference in price between Intel and
AMD.
2. at my place of employment, which is not computer related business, i have
repaired many pc's. i always take fritz program and run benchtest to check kns
with new cpu. i have found that there is a big difference in these two brands
with fritztest. maybe not fair because "not optimized", i am not sure of this
point. This will be interesting to see the tests of these new smp processors.
one thing i have learned about all this, whatever the results---it will be very
temporary. my 2 x 1533mhz amd mp is slow compared to new hardware.
