I generally would not, simply because it wastes computer cycles.  If a
program predicts wrong, it wastes 1/2 the machine's cycles since it is
computing but it is wasted.  So I would not use pondering on a single
machine ever.

If you don't turn ponder off using the winboard command line option,
winboard will turn it back on automatically...
