I am considering writing a chess engine in Visual C++ as i have Microsoft's Visual Studio. I am looking for models that explain in great details how this is done. For instance, How is the program taught the rules of chess? How are all the possible moves in each position calculated? How is the program taught the value of the pieces, to checkmate, to understand attack, defense, zugzwang, and the multitude of other parameters. I do apologize for my clear lack of knowledge, but i need to start somewhere :) People have said that Toms stupid chess program is a good model. This may be true, but it still does not explain the basic fundamentals of how to create the program. Thanks for any help....Cheers~
