I don't know if it would hold for comp v comp, but at my chess club in the early 90s, we played 'even up chess', 5 minute with 1 minute/100 ELO pts handicap. I.e. for 100 pt difference, 5 min v 4 min, 200 pts, 6 v 4, 300 pts, 6 v 3. The winner lost a minute in subsequent games, and on average the 100pts/minute seemed to be about right. Pat
