I have played (using Crafty) in several "GM challenges" on various chess servers. I didn't save the games. Even though it played in a round-robin with 4 GMs and won every "match" in the RR. So no, it doesn't seem "strange" to me at all, even though nothing says "The games were not saved." They weren't made public, which is not the same thing.
