It is what I am using.  I've been using it since version 6.0, and for Crafty it
produces the
fastest executable of any compiler I have tried.  I have the old gcc 2.95.2 that
was the best
for Crafty until Intel's compiler.  And I have the latest gcc on redhat 8, and
neither can beat
the intel compiler for executable speed (again, for Crafty, YMMV on other
programs).
