They do not need to wait for a tragedy. They already do it with pocket fritz. I do not think that they need to use Fritz as the name of the program if they get something significantly better. If there will be a program that is significantly better than Fritz then they can use the word better than Fritz for marketing and use another name for the program. The problem is that there is no program that is significantly better than Fritz(note that beating Fritz in a match is not enough and you need to do better in the ssdf. Shredder is now number 1 but the difference is too small to say that it is significantly better than Fritz and even the author of the opening book of shredder(Sandro) admits that there is no big difference between it and Fritz8 that was not tested so we still wait for a programmer that is going to be number one by a big margin(at least 50 ssdf rating points better than Fritz).
