Pentium4's run hotter than Athlons do, actually. 90% of the wattage figures you see on the net compare the Pentium 4's average wattage to the Athlon's maximum wattage. Apples to Oranges. Compare the P4's maximum to the Athlons maximum and you'll see the difference. The P4-3.06GHz is 110 watts, the AthlonXP 2800+ is only 72 watts or so. This means the P4-3.06 is putting off around 50% more heat than the Athlon 2800+.
