AMD discontinued these more than 2 years ago. I have 3 Athlon-based boxes, 2 run multiple CPUs, all are Socket A. Both SMP machines run the processors between 45-55 C. (They are spec'd up to 95 C.) My single Thunderbird 1.2 GHz runs 35-42 C. Ambient temperature for these measurements was ~27 C. All are air cooled. One of the SMP machines is using the stock AMD heatsink/fan combo with Arctic Silver III. The difference between the stock cooling and my SK6 is <5 C. The AS3 makes a huge difference, though -- from 72 C down to 45 C. The CPU will run at 72 C, but I feel safer with the CPU at 45 C. -Matt
