At that time I didn't have my own PC, so I used to play at work (after working hours, of course!) It was probably a 286 with 8 MHz. The next program I played against was Chessmaster 3000 on a 386/20 MHz. I had reasonable success against it, maybe about 25% wins, but Chessmaster 4000 on the same hardware totally creamed me. The first PC that I bought for myself was a 386/25 MHz, and the first chess program I ran on it was Fritz 1. The rest is history.
