I've seen my chess program exhibit this behaviour once. In my case what
happened was that my qsearch returned a mate score after searching 3 plys. So
when my program announced mate, it calculated the number of moves based on the
number of plys searched in the main search, which was 4 plys. So I guess you
can call this a bug, although not a serious bug. My qsearch will play captures,
forced moves and pawn promotions. Maybe I shouldn't trust my qsearch returning
mate scores??

Cheers,
Tom.
