IMO, it is a typical sophomore-versus-the-professor type of reparte.  There is a
long history of the sophomore attacking the professor, sophomore biting the hand
of the professor that has helped him in the past, sophomore attacking the
professor-author of an engine that is better than his, and so on and on and
on...
