I have to think about that possibility. I don't have enough expertise to be sure. it's certainly true that cb7 was designed around your operating system kernel and eight was designed for more powerful OS may demand more than you can give to do extreme things (memory intensive.) Specifically cb8 is designed to run on a 32 bit OS. I had some trouble with cb8 under winME when it navigated files on my hard disk, to open databases etc. after I switched to XPHome (for other reasons, like win98 isn't supported by Microsoft anymore and I needed some new drivers) I found that CB8 wasn't as fidgetty-- Imean I know tricks that can force a crash, like having too many databases open at once and then performing complex searches with other progs competing for memory, but i can search pretty well even on Mega2002 or Informant1-76 CD.No crashes doing that. On-line searches through chessbase website can be troublesome though because I don't always get the options menu to come up which alows me to parameterize recent games as an option, so I get stuck with 1000 old games I dont need. i do like to leave CB7 on one of my hard drives as it allows me to work with some engines in analysis without dealing with stupid copy protection issues every time i patch the OS which seems frequent--for security reasons -- as my country approaches war (sigh). best regards -- marc On March 08, 2003 at 21:26:08, Derek wrote: >Marc, I'm using Win98 original.
