I think that speed improvement cannot be calculated based on nodes per second when you have different programs. The way to calculate speed improvement should be based on positions when the program needs to find the right move. If the new program solves x positions in a test suite in 1 minute when the old program(with the same hardware) solves x positions only in 2 minutes then you can say that you got a x2 factor in speed only thanks to software.
