Hi! I just played some games against Faile 1.4.4 and came up to the following position: [D] r1b1r1k1/1pp1qppN/2n2n1p/p3p3/3P4/2PB4/P5PP/R1BQ1RK1 w - - 0 17 Here, most (in fact all ;-) programs would go for Nxf6, as the score is high enough (~ +3). I decided to try Rxf6. After playing some variants which were proposed by Fritz 8, the score always climbed to something > 3, for example after 1. Rxf6 - gxf6 2. Qh5 - e4 Fritz would play: [D] r1b1r1k1/1pp1qp1N/2n2p1p/p6Q/3Pp3/2PB4/P5PP/R1B3K1 w - - 0 1 Analysis by Fritz 8: 19.Dxh6 exd3 20.Sxf6+ Dxf6 21.Dxf6 Te1+ 22.Kf2 Te2+ 23.Kg3 Le6 24.Lf4 ± (1.03) Tiefe: 7/17 00:00:00 64kN 19.Lc4! ± (1.06) Tiefe: 7/24 00:00:00 128kN 19.Lc4! ± (1.22) Tiefe: 7/26 00:00:00 157kN 19.Lc4 Le6 20.Dxh6 Lxc4 21.Sxf6+ Dxf6 22.Dxf6 Te6 23.Df4 Kf8 ± (1.34) Tiefe: 7/28 00:00:00 190kN 19.Lc4 Le6 20.Dxh6 Lxc4 21.Sxf6+ Dxf6 22.Dxf6 Te6 23.Df4 Kf8 ± (1.34) Tiefe: 8/32 00:00:00 288kN 19.Lc4 Le6 20.Dxh6 Lxc4 21.Sxf6+ Dxf6 22.Dxf6 Te6 23.Dh4 Tc8 24.d5 +- (1.41) Tiefe: 9/34 00:00:00 599kN 19.Lc4 Le6 20.Dxh6 Lxc4 21.Sxf6+ Dxf6 22.Dxf6 Te6 23.Dh4 Td8 24.Dg3+ Kf8 25.Dxc7 b5 +- (1.66) Tiefe: 10/32 00:00:01 1472kN 19.Lc4 Le6 20.Dxh6 Lxc4 21.Sxf6+ Dxf6 22.Dxf6 Te6 23.Df4 Kf8 24.Dxc7 b5 +- (1.84) Tiefe: 11/33 00:00:03 3692kN 19.Lc4 Le6 20.Dxh6 Lxc4 21.Sxf6+ Dxf6 22.Dxf6 Te6 23.Df4 Kf8 24.Dxc7 +- (1.84) Tiefe: 12/31 00:00:07 8114kN 19.Lc4 Le6 20.Dxh6 Lxc4 21.Sxf6+ Dxf6 22.Dxf6 Te6 23.Df4 Kf8 24.Dxc7 +- (2.00) Tiefe: 13/33 00:00:17 20041kN 19.Lc4 Le6 20.Dxh6 Lxc4 21.Sxf6+ Dxf6 22.Dxf6 Te6 23.Dh4 Td8 24.Tb1 b5 25.Dg3+ +- (1.75) Tiefe: 14/37 00:00:54 63717kN 19.Dxh6! +- (1.78) Tiefe: 14/40 00:00:59 69485kN 19.Dxh6! +- (1.94) Tiefe: 14/40 00:01:03 74083kN 19.Dxh6 exd3 20.Sxf6+ Dxf6 21.Dxf6 Te1+ 22.Kf2 Te2+ 23.Kf1 Se7 24.Lg5 c5 25.Df3 c4 26.Te1 Txe1+ 27.Kxe1 +- (2.06) Tiefe: 14/40 00:01:12 83693kN 19.Dxh6! +- (2.34) Tiefe: 15/42 00:02:06 147570kN 19.Dxh6 exd3 20.Sxf6+ Dxf6 21.Dxf6 Te1+ 22.Kf2 Te2+ 23.Kf1 Se7 24.Lh6 Sf5 25.Lf4 Le6 26.Te1 Txe1+ 27.Kxe1 Sd6 28.Lxd6 +- (2.53) Tiefe: 16/43 00:05:13 365936kN still with a climbing score. So, is your program able to find a defense (which means a negative score for white ;-) after Rxf6? Thanks for your results, Steffen
