Did you uninstall and then reinstall F8 from the CD or did you just remove the 8.0023 engine from the Engine folder and put back the 8.008. I first made a copy of the Fritz 8.008 engine before I did anything. Placed the copy in another folder (Not named engines)and placed it there for safekeeping. Only then did I try the Upgrade. I to believe that the 8.0023 engine is weaker. I tried the experiment many on this site have been questioning. That being the Ne4 problem. With the 8.0023 engine, in the position given on this site, my program also played ...Qa8 rather than playing the simple and winning ...Nxe4. When I tried this with the 8.008 engine, it immediately played the Winning ...Nxe4. This concerned me. Some weren't concerned, believing that How often will this problem on e4 arise and affect the outcome of the game. But it is my contention, that if that problem exhists, and it does, then how many other problems that we are not aware of as yet, will arise? So, until I hear more on the subject, in regard to the Fritz 8 upgrades, I will stay with the Fritz 8.008 engine. I should add however, that I installed the previous upgrade from the URL address given by many on this site. It only affected the GUI and not the engine. I was having some severe HANGING UP PROBLEMS with Windows PROF XP and Fritz 8. Once I installed the upgrade, the problems disappeared!!! Brian Katz Brian Katz
