DarkThought is a private engine. For my way of thinking, it is almost as though they do not exist. If people in general do not have access, I don't really care much about it. The oldest example of a configurable chess engine that I know of (not a Winboard engine) is alibaba by D. M. Breuker. (About 1995). It has similar configuration capabilities. However, many of Omid's ideas are fairly unique. With Beowulf, it is possible to modify 113 distinct engine parameters. However, it does not allow transitions to completely different search algorithms.
