I recently put together a AMD XP2500 system from parts. I used a MSI K7N2G-L motherboard with dual PC2700 RAM modules (this MB supports 128-bit dual-channel RAM). Cost about $800 (w/o monitor or OS) and that was with a high-end power supply and all-aluminum case. The hardware is not hard to assemble, but the force you need to seat the heat sink onto the CPU is a little scary. Screw up and you've cracked your CPU or MB. Only other caveat: built-in MB graphics are limited (can only do 1024x768). --Jon
