I'm looking for a computer chess interface to facilitate analysis. The example
below details the desired features. Does any existing software come close?
Base Position : 1. e4 e5 2. f4 exf4 3. Nf3 g5 4. h4 g4 5. Ne5 Nf6
6. d4 d6 7. Nd3 Nxe4 8. Bxf4 Qe7 9. Be2 Bf5 10. O-O Qxh4
From the base position, the user might manually identify 4 plausible
continuations and assign each one a desired search depth.
Continuation Search Depth
(1) 11. Qe1 Qxe1 12. Rxe1 Be7 11 ply
(2) 11. Re1 Be7 12. Nd2 Nxd2 13. Qxd2 h6 13 ply
(3) 11. Nd2 Bh6 12. Bxh6 Qxh6 1 hour (+ complete whatever
search depth is
in progress)
(4) 11. Nf2 g3 3 hours (- do not complete
current search depth)
I think the above example is typical of Correspondence analysis. Ideally, the
chess interface would permit the user to edit the game (+ variations) with
"SEARCH-REQUEST symbols". The interface would then provide a feature which
peformed overnight analysis at each position flagged with a SEARCH-REQUEST
symbol and save the results to a file.
A couple of years ago, I looked for a chess interface with the desired feature.
The closest that I found was using Crafty's resource file (Crafty.rc) to
manually specify various (FEN) positions and search depths. Crafty also has the
epd-process-file-general-analysis (epdpfga) feature which provides an
alternative but similar method. Unfortunately, these methods are very
cumbersome.
