I tried with the games by Timman in Mega 2003. Then exact names - ignore
tournaments - exact moves - ignore year - ignore result. 4 runs gave the
 same result - 1 double found - Portisch-Timman ½-½ 10 moves. But one game
was played in Wijk aan Zee 1985, and the other one in Linares same year.
The reason, of course, the checked "ignore tournaments".

So I cannot follow you here - the doublekilling seems to work okey in CB8.
My upgrade is from 02-02-24, which according to CB8 is the latest.

The problem with databasing is,IMO, more of building your own DB from
numerous sources. Then you have to accept a multitude of doubles caused
by slight differences in names and moves. Not to mention wrong or false
games. A correct and carefully workedthrough playerbase is the foundation
of a high quality DB. Else you'll end up with like 24 different spellings
of Viktor Kortschnoj and the same goes of course for lesser known players...
Not hard to build a DB with 3-5 million games then...
