I think of my Deep Sjeng personality as a "demented spirit of Tal", not that Tal himself was demented! I, like you, think that Tal was one of the greatest chess geniuses ever - Botvinnik said, when he lost his World title to Tal, that Tal did not play the "right" moves in a position - he instead sought complications, where he could calculate better than Botvinnik. The Deep Sjeng personality used by redshift is a faint, faint echo of Tal's genius - at least, against players with an ICC rating of up to 2200 or so.
