That was most suitable for old hardware of the 80's - not now! It was certainly trouble back in the days of 286's. Today, I use the "3 hour rule". If I'll be using the computer within 3 hours, I leave it on. If not, I shut it off. If the monitor is the CRT type (not flat panel type), I always turn it off when I am no longer using it. The risk is small, but any computer or monitor (particularly the CRT type), can start a fire. A company I worked for had a large building heavily damaged by a fire begun by a computer monitor. The flat panel type VDT's are safer. Dave
