I also encountered that problem.
I am presently running a Compaq AMD Athlon 2600+ with 1 GIG of DDR SDRAM.

For starters, the Fritz8 interface was taking forever to start up.
As for the low kN/s, I was also having that problem when I set the hash tables
up near the 800 mark. If I set the hash tables lower it was not a problem. If I
after encountering this problem, lowered the hash table setting to for example
256 the problem would disappear. I could then raise the hash table setting to
818 if I wanted.

I also noticed that problem when running an engine tournament. One of the
engines would show very low kN/s such as 2 or 3 or 0 and the other would be up
around 1200+.
I have also encountered this problem while on the playchess server. To play on
that site with my Fritz8 engine, I had to use the Fritz7 interface.

After downloading one of the interface upgrades (not the engine upgrade)which
were mentioned by some on this site some of these problems disappeared. The slow
start up completely disappeared. Running engine tournaments were running
smoothly.

I was not happy with the recent upgrade (8.0023) as I also found that there was
a problem with Ne4 moves where as this did not happen with 8.008. This made me
wonder what else was wrong with that engine. Since I always keep copies of my
engines, I removed the 8.0023 engine and replaced it with the 8.008 engine.

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.
