Does the typical human ever get into "filter" and have it back up even seven
days?  When you generate huge hit lists like that the thing goes really slow and
becomes very difficult to use, so I doubt it matters much.

You won't hear any objection from me if you archive after 7 days, forever.  I
bet you are getting absolutely clobbered by having all those little files lying
around for weeks and weeks.

Anyone who wants to go back further than that should be downloading the stuff
and using "grep", it's way more convenient.

Which is another issue, it might be cool if you guys archived by week, until you
had a month's worth, then delete the weeklys and produce a monthly.
