I have to agree with you that none of these programs are close of being 2768
on a mere 1.2 Ghz. There are people here that will give you bad conclusion such
as: well Chess Tiger got a performance of 2788 against an Argentinian team on a
P3 866 MHz and so on, but according to the Argentinian players none of them
previously owned Chess Tiger and they didn't have a clue of how to play against
it. It is true that when two humans GM are going to face each other, they don't
reveal their weakeness to their opponent by practicing against each other. I
have posted here before that those rating are a little bit inflated, based on a
mere 1.2 Ghz. GM Smirin has shown us several times that todays top programs are
NOT there yet. Now you might also argue that Kramnik and Kasparov drew their
matches against Deep Fritz and Deep Junior, but again these machines were at
least five times faster then a single 1.2 GHz. I believe that possibly on a XP
2400+ Shredder 7 might be around 2700, if someday a match eventually materialize
against GM Seirawan or Smirin.
