According to your logic every time Black wins a shootout from the initial position would be a surprise. The outcome of shootout games prove nothing. Fritz 8 played a shootout from the position after 1.f3 c5 2.g4 on an Athlon 2GHz. You should play through the stunning game to understand my point of view. [Event "Blitz:10'"] [Site "Athlon"] [Date "????.??.??"] [Round "?"] [White "Fritz 8"] [Black "Fritz 8"] [Result "1-0"] [ECO "A00"] [Annotator ""] [PlyCount "77"] [TimeControl "600"] 1.f3 c5 2.g4 d5 3.Nh3 e5 4.Nf2 Nc6 5.Nc3 Be6 6.h4 Be7 7.h5 Nh6 8.d3 0-0 9.Rg1 Bh4 10.e4 d4 11.g5 f5 12.gxh6 Bxf2+ 13.Kxf2 Qh4+ 14.Ke2 dxc3 15.Rxg7+ Kh8 16.bxc3 fxe4 17.Qe1 exf3+ 18.Kd1 f2 19.Qe2 Bd5 20.Bg5 Qa4 21.Qe3 Bf3+ 22.Kc1 Qa3+ 23.Kd2 Rf5 24.Bf6 Rf8 25.Rb1 Qa6 26.Rgxb7+ R5xf6 27.Qg5 Qxb7 28.Rxb7 R6f7 29.Qg7+ Rxg7 30.hxg7+ Kg8 31.gxf8R+ Kxf8 32.Rxh7 Bd5 33.Rc7 Ne7 34.h6 Bg8 35.Ke2 a5 36.Kxf2 Bh7 37.Bg2 Bf5 38.Rxc5 Ng8 39.Rc6 1-0 The position after 1.f3 c5 2.g4 is very bad for white and probably lost (too much weaknesses in the white camp). However white won the game convincingly. Michael
