Subject: IMPORTANT info for ChessBrain.net participants: team WINBOARD

Author: Edward Seid

A new version of the PeerNode client has just been released. This is an
important upgrade that allows you (and the WINBOARD team) to receive credit for
cancelled jobs, ie the CPU does the work but the workunit isn't used by the
SuperNode server. PLEASE UPGRADE YOUR PEERNODE CLIENT. The URL for the download
is http://www.chessbrain.net/downloads.html

Currently, the WINBOARD team is in 4th place, behind some hardcore distributed
computing teams. GOOD JOB, GANG! Amongst WINBOARD team members, thomas.mayer is
leading the pack, but eseid (me!) is gaining ground... I now have 5 PCs
participating.

Sometime very soon, ChessBrain will set the official Guinness World Record for
"the most number of computers to play a single game of chess". Be part of chess
history and join the ChessBrain project.

Finally...

--- OPEN CALL TO JOIN TEAM WINBOARD ON CHESSBRAIN ---

ChessBrain is a distributed computing project, similar to SETI, that aims to
harness the collective calculating power of individual computers over the
internet to play a game of chess. Each individual computer runs the PeerNode
client software, which uses idle CPU cycles to perform chess analysis and
communicate with the SuperNode server. The SuperNode server gathers all of the
incoming analysis and processes it to produce a chess move.

Teams are a way for individuals to self-organize. I created the WINBOARD team as
a means of spreading the word about Winboard and the various engines. (See the
DC Team Info URL, given above) Currently, there are 18 members of team WINBOARD.

I invite everyone to participate in the ChessBrain project and join the WINBOARD
team. The steps are simple:

1- Download and install the PeerNode client. (I suggest using MS Windows GUI
client, if you can)
2- Configure the client with your user info (email, team = WINBOARD, country)
and the amount of RAM to use.
3- Leave your PC running.

Feel free to use as many PCs as you like.

Many thanks to everyone who has participated on the WINBOARD team so far. With
your continued participation and the addition of new members, the WINBOARD team
will continue to rise in the rankings. Soon, everyone will know about the
wonderful world of WINBOARD :)

Chess Trivia: Beowulf, the chess engine that powers the PeerNode client, is a
Winboard engine.

PS: If you participate in SETI, please join the WINBOARD team there. Currently,
one member (me). http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/stats/team/team_132986.html
