FICS is run under Linux (foxbat is a kernel programmer for Solaris), using a
Dual P3 1.0Ghz system with 1GB of RAM.

I used to poke fun at him all the time, because my 'home PC' was considerably
faster than it.

As I recall, the FICS software took no CPU power to run. It was all bandwidth.
So I am sure you could get away with using a standard P3 1.0Ghz, and it would
operate just fine. It is all about the bandwidth.
