It's a real shame too as he was talented. He still had some maturing to do as a
person and chessplayer so I'm sure his strength would only increase. I can only
speculate that he probably grew to hate the game with the constant unhealthy
militant grind that his psychotic father pushed on him.

I can see his point in getting a good education BUT with the payouts these days
at the tourneys he'll never come close to that as a doctor PLUS the loads of
money u have to pay to get your degree and THEN the work u lose because you have
to go to college.

hypothetical scenario

8 years college ------------------------------- $25,000 = $200,000
8 years (potential chess earnings) ----- $250,000 = $2,000,000

total loss $2.2 million dollars in his particular case

let's just say he starts off as a doctor making $125,000

17.6 years to get it back!

he must hate the game because he sure isn't doing it for finacial reasons. It
also seems to me that he grew disillusioned with himself after his loss to
Karpov in their match.
