I would like to know which elements of the position are commonly included in
hash signatures, and the issues with including or excluding certain elements.
Currently, I am including the board, the side to move, castling rights, and en
passant square.

I'm not sure how important it is to hash the en passant square, since ep squares
regularly exist, but an ep capture is legal only a small percentage of that
time.

I'm also not sure how important it is to hash the castling rights, since if the
castling rights are different, it's likely that the board is too.
