From this and your other posts, I would guess that you are a beginning
programmer, in general, and in chess programming, in particular.

That's a rough combination to overcome. Chess programs are not a good choice for
beginner's to jump into as projects. Check out David O's tic-tac-toe program,
which uses alpha beta to search for it's best answer, or try programming some
game like tic-tac-toe, Othello, Connect4, Peg17, etc., and come back to chess
programming when you are more experienced. Have a read of Tom's Simple Chess
Program (TSCP), and others, and see if they may not give you some idea's to help
you.

Your question is far too general. For instance, what operating system and
language are you using? What part of what function are you having problems with?
