Has anyone tried a faster time control whose result is >equivalent to 40/2?> Different time controls, different results (even: same time controls, different results when you repeat the tournament... :o) But 40/40 is a good compromise IMO. (I think every time control makes sense nowadays, where the engines reach two-digit search depths in the middlegame. 10 or more plies + extensions are "a lot of calculation", disregarding how long it takes, even it's only a few seconds of time per move. Of course the maximum of pure chess quality requires always the maximum of thinking time and computer speed... it's always a compromise. I could also claim, 40/2h is not competitive for correspondence chess, etc.etc.) Regards, M.Scheidl
