Subject: Chess software and skill level improvement

I plan to buy a professional chess software/database package soon to help me
prepare for tournament level play. I estimate my current level to be that of
junior level club player.
I am interested in knowing the experience chess players in this newsgroup have
had in software actually helping improve their ELO rating - USCF or otherwise.
Will it be possible for me to bump my ELO from say 1800approx. to 2300approx.
simply using this package, over say 6 months?
