My personal expierence has been that chess computers have helped my play
enormously. I started out a beginner and purchased The Radio shack 2150, after
playing with this computer for two years, it took me to the 1800 level. I
attribute this success exlusively to the computer, because I played very few
humans during this period. I seriously doubt if any computer program or Human
grandmaster for that matter can "bump your elo from 1800-2300 in two months,
even if you have the talent of bobby fisher. Chess is much to complicated a game
to improve so quickly. After trashing my radio shack, I started purchasing chess
programs and this added another 150 pts to my rating, however for some reason my
progress is somewhat arrested. I am not sure why this is, I think that it is
possible that one can expierence overkill when you purchase a program so far
rated above yourself that you cannot learn anything.
