Maybe I'm saying something stupid, but having extra functions might reduce the
efectiveness of the cache. My previous chess program had 4 functions as well,
and wasn't really a big improvement, it was messier and extra work for me, so
I'm using two again.
I don't think the compiler is going to do a worse job anyway. Try checking your
complied assembly code for optimizations, it works for me.
