chess players are addicted to winning. it gives them a serotonin rush. So it is
not relevant to these players if they can't beat some silicon under some
circumstances. No one will cower at the possibility of losing unless it is a
very official match. No one needs to even know when we lose to a machine.

any severe application of the logic proffered by you might be a good excuse to
avoid doing anything, so why chose chess for your example?

"war games,"the old movie you cited was about the cold war, nuclear war. a more
current computer simulation this summer in germany, the most expensive game
designed in military history, resulted in america's war plan in asia. therefore
I do not think your question is about computer chess. Perhaps your question is
about pessimism and if so, we can take it to the other board.
