Crafty is an xboard/winboard-compatible engine. I dunno how to issue this
command within these interfaces. (I know there's a function key or something
which opens a panel where you can issue a command (and read the output in the
debug log) but maybe there's a better method in Winboard) Maybe a Winboard-user
can shed some more light on this.

I typically start Crafty from the shell (being a Linux-user I don't mind it ;)
and enter the perft-command there.
