Another interesting thing here. Without any TBs, Yace will show a positive score much faster. Why? I think it is some sort (of very subtle) luck factor. It is not the first time, I have seen this, and I even debugged very large search trees in similar cases (it really is very hard work, to debug such large search trees). Without TBs the engine might anticipate some variation, that looks good, but TBs show some "trick" for the opponent, to make it draw, nevertheless. Only deeper search will show, that one or the other move (already deep in the main line) can be changed for the real winning move. It would be very difficult for me, to explain the details. But perhaps you can somehow follow the argument. While I was writing this, after about 5 minutes, I see +5.x score (without any TBs) - faster than with TBs. And the typical slow down for accessing many TB-positions really is not a factor here. Regards, Dieter
