Dan Heisman is one of my favorite writers on chess. I think he does a good job of explaining things that lower rated players like myself need to know. This month in his chesscafe.com article, he writes about evaluating positions. In reading it, I thought some of it might be interesting to chess programmers, because he compares various piece combinations and tells which is prefered and gives numbers of how much better a particular board feature or group of pieces is worth. Most of it is probably nothing new for chess programmers, but it might be interesting to compare your evaluation functions to the one he describes.
