Government Monkey Rants on anything « Test | Main April 21, 2003 How to waste time Here's a good way to waste time:install the Linux port of Duke Nukem 3D on your Linux PC. Not is it only fun from the sheer novelty of it, it's fun to replay Duke Nukem again after all these years. Sure, it's a seven year old sorta 3D game which technically sucks in every respect when compared to your modern shot 'em ups. But it's great to hear Duke say Bitchin'! after splattering a bad guy with a pipe bomb. Quake and Unreal just don't have that...attitude. And for you Windows guys-well now there's a Windows port of Duke. You need your old dos Duke Nukem cd to get the map files but after that it's all 100% native. So start downloading already. Update: Steven Den Beste has good things to say about this development, including a direct link to a Windows port of Duke. Unlike Steven the USB trackball I'm using under Linux works just fine, but I have found one minor annoyance-when restoring from a saved game the active item in Duke's inventory gets turned on. It's a small price to pay when saving the world from alien bastards who are stealing our chicks!
