I have all of the files in one directory, and do something like: # to get posts by you ls -1 | xargs fgrep 'From: Daniel Clausen' # to get posts by you, containing the word linux ls -1 | xargs fgrep 'From: Daniel Clausen' | xargs fgrep 'linux' It's slow, but it works. To view the files, you could just add a 'more' (or less, or whatever) on the end. Like: ls -1 | xargs fgrep 'From: Daniel Clausen' | xargs fgrep 'linux' | less For a fast search, you probably need some kind of database instead of searching flat files.
