Let me second that, and even third that. I think playing dedicated units is
much more fun that playing against an easy level on the computer. Just turn the
thing on and off you go. I have a Radio Shack 2150L, and it gives me a good
game at level 6. Over 20 years ago I had another radio shack model called
Chess Champion. The picture on the box shows a white pawn along white's first
rank!

A barbarian is at the gate, however. I have a simple Palm with ChessTiger. For
blitz games this is absolutely the best, but I don't play it for slower games.
But I'm thinking of retiring my Radio Shack 2150L because it takes too long for
it to think, and am looking for another dedicated unit.

Now here's the problem, and hence the barbarian that is a non-dedicated unit is
rearing it's ugly head. There is really no good dedicated unit to upgrade to.
Except for that TASC wooden board (if you can even get those anymore), the best
option for a dedicated unit is the Star Sapphire or the Star Diamond. And of
course they aren't around yet. They have been expected for over 2 years now,
and I think it's anyone's guess whether they ever will arrive. But let's
pretend that these computers come forth. The Star Sapphire runs, does it not,
at 16MHz? The Diamond at 20MHz? I would think my Palm m105 which I got for $75
would be thier equal. Especially so with the later Palms. And later Palms
would cost about the same as the Star Sapphire.

I'm afraid there is no dedicated computer to upgrade to anymore, even if the
latest in vaporware comes to fruition. While I love my Palm and ChessTiger,
there is just something about a purely dedicated unit that "does it" for me.

Blah blah blah, I'm just venting/talking. Throwing thoughts out there, that
sort of thing.
