How do you came to the conclusion, that such a machine would give two extra plies? With a branching factor of 3 you need a machine which is 9 times faster to get two extra plies. I doubt that anyone will use an opteron machine, since I think nobody will be able to rewrite his program for 64Bit architecture until the event. I think we will see Dual-Xeon 3.06 Ghz and maybe Dual-Athlons 3000+ but that will not even double the speed. > >longer list of 2002 hardware : > >SHREDDER Dual AMD Athlon MP 2100 >JUNIOR Dual PIV 2.2 Ghz / PIII 1 Ghz >QUEST Dual AMD Athlon MP 2000+ >GOLIATH AMD XP 1500 >DIEP Teras (60 processors 500 Mhz) >BRUTUS Xilinx Virtix FPGA and AMD 1 Ghz >PASSOS Dual PIII 1Ghz >INSOMMIAC AMD XP 2100 >WARP Pentium IV 1.7 Ghz >ISICHESS X AMD 2.1 Ghz >IKARUS AMD Athlon 2000+ >POSTMODERNIST Pentium IV 1.7 Ghz >SJENG AMD Athlon 1800 >SHARKY Pentium III 500 Mhz >CHINITO 2.1 Pentium IV 1.7 Ghz >XINIX AMD Athlon 2000+ >NOONIANCHESS Penitum IV 2 Ghz >SPIDERCHESS AMD XP 2000
