I soubt that anyone will use a 8-way machine. How do you came to the conclusion,
that such a machine would give two extra plies? With a branching factor of 3 you
need a machine which is 9 times faster to get two extra plies. I doubt that
anyone will use an opteron machine, since I think nobody will be able to rewrite
his program for 64Bit architecture until the event. I think we will see
Dual-Xeon 3.06 Ghz and maybe Dual-Athlons 3000+ but that will not even double
the speed.
