The reasons are many.Commercial programs and the great majority of freeware
programs are very strong. Also handicap options produce unrealistic play in
almost all cases. The level of play is so high that I have seen 2300+ elo
players lose without making any apparent mistakes. The answer therefore is
modern press sensory computers like the Star Diamond that in reality have
playing elo of about 2200.Moreover a lot of people like the option of actually
moving chess pieces.
