This position is not so much about penetration itself but about getting a protected passer and avoiding one for your opponent which will bind the opposing king to this side of the board and free your own for said penetration. That's the reason why 1..h5 ?? is so bad; it destroys the majority. Kd7 is just as good as h6 of course. It seems engines don't understand this motive at all. Try this one with your favourite program and let it search for a while: [D]8/1p1k4/4p2p/1PP2pp1/2KP4/7P/6P1/8 w - - 0 1 This is a draw (I hope ;) ). Peter
