Some time ago I tended to believe this too (and even longer time ago, I somewhat doubted the quality of blitz computer games). But now, since two-digit depth of 10+, plus extensions, are reached even in blitz games, I don't doubt their "chess quality" anymore... OTOH, tests have shown that the *time controls* are most probably more decisive for match results between two engines, than the computer speed. IOW, while 40/2h[Pentium II 500 MHz] and 40/2h[Pentium IV 2 GHz] will most probably give very similar match results, 40/2h at 500 MHz will *not* be comparable to 40/30 minutes at 2 GHz, although that would be ~4 times the CPU speed and 1/4 of the thinking time... http://www.pcschach.de/Experimente/Experiment5/ErgebnisseExp5/ergebnisseexp5.html (P2/233 vs. P4/1600, experiment by Gerhard Sonnabend) Regards, Mike Scheidl
