If you compare Manfred Meiler's test results (100 pos), you can spot some small differnces between Genius 7 and 6.5 of Nov. 2000 - but not many. See ranks 136 and 139 in the WM-Test: http://www.computerschach.de/test/WM-Test%20(100pos).zip Btw. the Geniuses rank far behind most freeware engines tested there. Since you have Genius 5 already, you could consider Shredder 7.SE instead, if you don't have Fritz 8 with the new GUI version yet, ~30 $/€ should be the price for this special edition (i.e. Niggemann). It doesn't include the classic GUI and all of the engine settings though. But it's certainly the better buy, in my opinion. Genius 7 may be recommandable still though, for people who don't know the program yet, since it's the most up-to-date version of a very famous program (many times World Champion), which no collection should miss. Also, the GUI is quite feature rich, incl. Auto-232. I have Genius 5 too; what kind of problems occur in XP? (I still use W98/ME) Regards, M.Scheidl
