You get much more feedback if your program is free. However, if you write a really nice windows- GUI your program would be the first sharewareprogram which has one ;-) Btw don't try to write the strongest engine - it is a waste of time. Even now there are more engines than chessplayers using them. One more thought: Why don't you make your GUI WinBoard-compatible?
