Theoretically, 2800+ is not as far as the 760MPX can go, there's 3 reasons I say
that that's as far as AMD will go with it tho:

1)760MPX was originally intended for low 1 ghz MP's, it was good for it's time,
but is horribly inefficient for today's MP's.
2)MP's have historically followed the XP's lead, meaning it'll have to make the
leap to 333MHz for its next iteration, meaning new chipset needed.
3)yes, Opterons were intended for mid to high level servers NOW, the prices will
drop as AMD perfects SOI and releases higher clock speed opterons. this and the
AGP equipped, CONSUMER targeted nForce3 chipset, will make the Opterons great
for low to mid range servers as well.

Does this mean the death of MP? AMD is going 64-bit with everything. in 6
months, the XP will be the Athlon64, which will be, IIRC, SMP capable. That with
SOI means that 3000+'s of the MP price range will be available around then.

AMD's roadmaps show that MP's will die at the end of 1H'03, but they usually
means that they'll still be manufacturing them, not neccessarily coming out with
newer models. The roadmap indicates that the Opterons will become their
all-ranging server chip by then.
